DCES Board Meeting

8:45am – Front office conference room

 

Attended by: April, Jill, Dana, Jan, Kelly, Debbie, Ali, Cindy, Mara & Mr. Rantala

 

1. Summary of Meet the Teacher

• Logistics/Flow of event – all went well
  • Cube and Wi-Fi went well
  • T-shirt order – 482 shirts ordered – PTO makes $5 per shirt
  • Teachers want additional t-shirt – give them a chance to order at cost
  • Any other parent feedback? No news is good news!

 

2. Transportation Update

• Alyssa in charge.  All went well.
• Definitely only need to do it for first week of school.
• Schedule ongoing pick up and drop off for remainder of year
  • After Labor Day – will have parents to help.  5^th grade classes start first.
  • One week pre class alphabetical.
  • Need to communicate to parents about drop off etiquette
  • Hand card stock to parents and ask them to put last name/grade and hang in visor

 

3. Boo-Hoo Breakfast

• ~75 people came (old and new faces)
• Very nice spread!

 

4. Treasurer Report

• Budget Planning/Approval for next year
  • Numbers plugged but showing negative earnings; need to go back and tweak
  • Pawpartner – $20K as of now
    • Compared to $13K for all of  last year
    • Jan to send out another push in Friday Folder and email blast
  • Will get an email to vote on budget to approve – soon!
  • 208 people have purchased yearbook
  • Birthday Book Club – 185 kids so far
    • September is their first party
    • Trinkets to give away?  Need to shop for something.
    • Budget is about $15-$22 per book

Library books must have special spine and coding

Order ahead – get billed in May for September

 

5. Family Fun Update

• Jamba Juice – sold out!  Made $180
• Flo’s – $1360 in sales – $271 we made – Flo’s bumped it to $300.
• Dbacks- game on 9/25 – send home flyer on Friday. Deadline is 9/7.
• McTeacher Night status – renovating the McDonald’s in Nov/Dec – maybe do in March
• Suns game – NBA is still on strike – not looking good!
• During Book Fair in November – get Subway on 11/16 from 5-7pm

 

6. Hospitality Update

• Teachers are loving the Chi Tea for the Keurig and Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper
• Set up rotation for teacher donations?

 

7. Fall Fest Update

• Status of everything
  • Chairs will come to next meeting
  • 11 Sponsors so far
  • Meeting with Room Parents – after room parent meeting next week 9/6
  • Applebee’s, Carlos O’Brians and Island’s are doing food
  • Can we do Teacher dunk tank? Pie in the face?
  • Ran out of silly string in 45 minutes last year – expensive to do.  Do we do again?
  • Sun sets about 5:45pm (thanks Jill!)

 

8. Holiday Boutique idea

• 2 parents to take it on?
• MMR Community Center?
• Possible date is Friday, 12/2

 

9. SPI Update

• Teacher input?
  • Sheet was sent to teachers asking what they think is needed in their grade level
  • Are there other Non-profit companies to use?
  • Ruth is on campus today

 

10. Grant Focus this year

• Jill Feinstein is our grant writer
• Mr. Rantala and Jan to see what to focus on this year

 

11. Status of Final Campus Improvements

• Painting of planters and amphitheater – already have work orders in (only 4 painters in district)
• Shade funded by SUSD for amphitheater – yes! We were mistakenly off the list that went out but we are first on the list.  Think Oct/Nov.
• Signage for bus routes – Wanda is working on magnets that are bigger
• Ball court markings – already have a work order for that
• Shade for water fountains out by fields where 4^th/5^th grades play on playground

 

12. Spring Fundraisers/Important Dates

• 2/24 – Family Movie Night
• 3/5 – Spring Break begins
• 3/16 – Online auction to begin?
• 3/23 – BBQ/Bingo/Bidding Night (moved to this date due to DCMS Spring Fundraiser)
• 3/25 – Online Auction to close

 

13. November Book Fair (11/14 – 11/18)

• April to call Courtney from Dunkin about discount coffee and donuts for Donuts with Dad
• April to also check with WalMart also
• Ali to see if Subway can participate on Wed night
