BIRTHDAY
BOOK CLUB
DCES PTO is proud to offer the Birthday Book Club as a way for families to
directly contribute to our library shelves and for children to celebrate their
birthdays in a special way. Birthday Book Club purchases library-quality hard
bound books that are "shelf-ready", meaning they have been labeled with bar
codes, call numbers and Accelerated Reader information. Students come to the
library after their lunch to pick out a book from a pre-purchased selection that
are sorted and displayed on grade appropriate tables. The student's name is
written on a BBC bookplate inside the front cover and they get to be the first
to check the book out! Students may also have the library choose and label a
book for them, if they don't want to miss their lunch recess! This leaves the
child with a lasting legacy at DCES - a library book for children to enjoy for
years.
Most of our small collection was left for us by the Scottsdale Public Library
when Arabian library moved off our campus to its present location - and most of
those books are over 10 years old! Last year, BBC put 438 NEW in-demand books
on our shelves, almost 5 times more than we would have received from the
District budget alone. It is the goal of BBC to provide 500 new books for our
library in the 2009-2010 school year. We hope you can join us in reaching our
goal! Click
